Origin Operational Planning Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Origin Operational Planning Manager to join our team based at our Leeds head office.

Purpose of the role

Reporting to the Import Sea Freight Manager, you will work with a high degree of autonomy to lead a small team, managing efficient and effective flow of shipments from bookings stage through to departure origin.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Ensuring customer standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for effective consolidation and space planning.
  • Make informed auditable decisions with effective procedures to manage inevitable exceptions.
  • Liaise with overseas partners, carriers, customers and colleagues, ensuring all parties have high level visibility of all orders and shipments.
  • Manage and motivate a small team to ensure maximum efficiency whilst minimising costs
  • Maintain appropriate customer contact working relationships with origin partners.
  • Planning origin bookings using in house systems and processes.
  • Organise containers and ensure the correct carrier space planning is in place.
  • Oversee accuracy of agents and supplier updates are reflected on all company systems.
  • Ensure all reports required by both the customer and the company are completed and communicated in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Effectively manage bookings, resolve any issues as they arise and escalate issues to the customer where appropriate.

Person specification

  • Previous experience of sea freight forwarding
  • High degree of commercial awareness
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and in writing)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office and warehousing systems)
  • Innovative with a positive and pro-active approach to change
  • Ability to perform under pressure, use initiative to organise own workload
  • Self-motivated and results driven
  • Customer focused
